The Creation and Funding of the Schools
The Samburu schools were founded by the government of Kenya. Each school differs based on the population of the surrounding area. All schools receive minimal basic funding from the Kenyan government; however, they are still in desperate need of educational donations. |
The Education System
The levels of education in Kenya are the same as those in the United States. Students have the potential to attend eight years of primary school, four years of high school, and four years at a university. Many students do not pursue higher education. Children must often leave school before or following eighth grade to assist their parents with village practices.

Identifying School Needs
Following our visit to one of the schools in the village of Samburu East, we met with the administrator. During our discussion, she informed us that the schools would benefit from English books because the students are required to learn English as a part of the curriculum. They possessed textbooks for their studies, but the students lacked practice materials to better understand and develop their knowledge of the language. |
